KIFAC Denver Kickball League or KIFAC Social Sports League was founded in Denver in 2003 by a group of friends wanting a laid-back summer kickball league–an alternative to leagues that took their kickballing a little too seriously.  It was, and still is, simply a sports league at heart.  Along the way, the league realized that bringing together people to do fun things created a great opportunity to raise a little money for charity.   The idea was simple: do fun stuff, have an awesome league and donate a bit of the participation fee to charity . . . a win-win situation!

We originally called ourselves “Kick In For A Cause”, a play on both the kickball league that started it all, and the charitable aspect that evolved. However, other groups and tournaments in town adopted similar names, so to avoid confusion we started going by the acronym of KIFAC.

The league’s first donation was to to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and that idea continues today with KIFAC’s primary monetary donation going to CAF. KIFAC also makes various donations to other groups by utilizing the power of a fun-loving crowd like KIFAC. All in all, KIFAC has donated well over $120,000 to charity.

In 2017, a new chapter will begin for KIFAC.  Instead of giving all of our donation to a handful of charities, we will allow each participating team to designate a charity to receive a donation on their team’s behalf. It’s an exciting change because while our primary charities will no longer receive as much, we will now be able to provide a small amount of funding to the charity’s closest to our participating teams.  Cheers to that!

Challenged Athletes Foundation

Challenged Athletes FoundationThe Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), a 501c3 non-profit organization, is a world leader in helping people with physical challenges get involved, and stay involved, in sports. Headquartered in San Diego with regional chapters, CAF provides unparalleled sports opportunities, hope, education, and inspiration enabling physically challenged individuals to live active lifestyles.

More than eighty cents of every dollar raised by CAF provides funding for adaptive sports equipment, training and competition expenses, programs and events that help challenged athletes get off the sidelines and into the game.

Whether it’s specialized equipment, training, or arranging enthusiastic encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed over a similar injury, CAF‘s mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, competitive lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love.

KIFAC is excited to be closing in on the $100,000 mark in donations to CAF!

Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation

Children’s Hospital ColoradoEach year, Children’s Hospital Colorado treats nearly 225,000 kids. Children’s Fund gifts are unrestricted donations used to help meet Children’s Colorado’s greatest needs, providing the hospital with greater flexibility to care for their young patients. Donations to Children’s Fund help to:

  • Provide resources for parents, family and siblings, so they are better equipped to support patients
  • Treat all children, regardless of ability to pay, because we believe all kids deserve the opportunity for good health
  • Cover the cost of care that government aid programs do not
  • Make groundbreaking strides in research through studies that are leading to more effective treatments and cures for childhood illnesses
  • Support physicians and their patients in rural mountain communities
  • Meet the region’s unique pediatric health needs via a diverse care network of nearly 2,000 pediatric specialists and 5,000+ employees

Children’s Hospital Colorado strives to provide each child they care for – as well as each child’s family – with the best possible health care experience and outcome. Gifts to the Children’s Fund help them do just that.

We Don’t Waste

We Don’t Waste is an innovative provider of food for the hungry. They collect unused food from venues, caterers, restaurants, and other food purveyors and distribute the food to Denver’s under-served populations. Their efforts augment existing food and supplies needed by community-based non-profit agencies, with high quality protein, high quality produce along with wholesome, nutritional and varied “restaurant-grade” meals, along with personal hygiene items.

For more information about We Don’t Waste, visit their website at www.WeDontWaste.org

For an awesome video about We Don’t Waste, check out the following VIDEO LINK.

KIFAC is proud to support We Don’t Waste two ways. One is by donating the use of our League Van (along with paying for insurance and maintenance) to We Don’t Waste during the off-season, where it is used for the pick-up and delivery of donated food. The photos at right are of our van in use. We are proud to announce that We Don’t Waste has now acquired multiple vehicles to meet their delivery needs, so use of the van is now rare. Congrats! The second way KIFAC supports We Don’t Waste is through monetary donations, which total just over $5,000.

Center for Work Education and Employment

Center for Work Education and EmploymentCenter for Work Education and Employment (CWEE, pronounced “see-wee”) is leading Colorado in overcoming the constraints and disparities of poverty, cultivating self-supporting families, and optimizing collaborative partnerships. CWEE’s job-readiness programs offer well-rounded, individualized services to provide the assistance and support necessary for job candidates in the Denver Metro area to become self-sufficient.

For more information about CWEE, visit their website at www.CWEE.org

KIFAC hosts post-kickball season toy drive parties to help CWEE assist its participants in providing toys and other gifts during the holiday season.

Denver Parks and Recreation

Denver Parks & Recreation Field Maintenance FundThe Denver Parks & Recreation Field Maintenance Fund, as it sounds, is a fund set aside for the upkeep of athletic fields in the Denver Parks system. KIFAC takes great care to move the plate locations of our bases every night to lower the impact on the grass we use. However, with nightly use any grass will eventually wear out.

We believe we are not only users of our City’s great park system, but also stewards of it. Therefore, KIFAC supports the DP&R Field Maintenance Fund by making a monetary donation to it. KIFAC is proud to be the only known Sports League in Denver making such a donation in support of Denver Parks and the athletic fields we love.

KIFAC has donated a total of $24,000 to the DP&R Field Maintenance Fund.

One World Running

One World RunningOne World RunningOne World Running (OWR) is an international program promoting an awareness of health, fitness and nutrition by collecting previously owned running shoes and providing them to those in need in the United States and around the world. Unusable shoes are collected for Ecocycle where they are ground up and made into athletic surfaces such as basketball courts, tennis courts and school playgrounds.

For more information about OWR, visit their website at www.OneWorldRunning.com

KIFAC supports OWR by taking up donations of running shoes during each Kickball season. The photo at right is part of the league’s collection one year. It’s hard to know exactly how many shoes KIFAC members have donated over the years but it easily 1,000+ pairs.
